I love college. I'm having the time of my life. 8 months until band starts again.

I just need to reiterate again how fucking glad I am that I'm in the Michigan Marching Band. The season is coming to an end, and I can't believe that 3 months has gone by this fast. I started out really hating it and positive that I wasn't going to do it next year. Now, next year can't come soon enough. It is a definite change from high school band to college band, and I think that's why I didn't like it at first. Now that I am finally used to how things work here, I am so glad to be a part of something that is such a proud tradition.
I ended up making two half time shows, plus the homecoming show which everyone marches. The two shows I made, though, were a two-week show and a three-week show, so being on the field for the last 5 weeks was almost half of the season.
As far as the controversial "reserves" system: I completely and totally agree with it. I love the competitive aspect that it adds, and it keeps everyone on their toes. Nobody can ever settle for mediocrity because they will lose their spot for the week. It also gives you something to work towards, especially being a freshman. Finally getting a spot is one of the greatest feelings. It's frustrating to hear people say "oh, so when you audition and make it, you're not even in the band." That is not true in the least. I know it may sound that way, but anyone who has been in the band and been a reserve (everyone) will tell you otherwise.
I absolutely love all of the people in my section and am happy to be able to call them great friends. It is a great feeling to have a core group of friends among the 37,000 people here. I can't imagine where I'd be if I hadn't joined marching band, or if I had quit early in the season like I was feeling so compelled to do. I'm so glad that I actually got involved with something and am doing something with my time.
As far as other college things, I don't really like my classes right now, and I am very excited to come home for a month in about 2 weeks. I really like all of my teachers, but the classes they're teaching are not interesting to me.
I hate living in dorms, and am very excited to move into our house at 510 Lawrence next year. We found a 4th person to sign the lease, and with Sarah transferring that will be our 5. I'm getting a beagle to live with us as well.
Finally, I'm going to Columbus tomorrow, and I'm very fucking excited.

Well I'm just sittin' in my dorm waitin' for my friends to get here. My phone, wallet (including room key, and mcard), is in the car that is not here. So I don't have many options of what to do right now. I guess I'll just keep sittin'.

Everyone on facebook is so retarded.
What really annoys me is all of these people that just suddenly came out of nowhere and have these big political agendas and grievances. I feel like they just decided "Ok, I'll be a democrat" or "Ok, I'll be a republican". Like you didn't care 2 weeks ago, and now you know everything about how this country works. I'm definitely not saying I know much, but I also don't go around pressing my views on people.
Even if you didn't vote for Obama, you still have to be able to appreciate how historically significant this is. Personally, I didn't feel very strongly either way, and I'm just excited to have a new president.
Talking about politics never accomplishes anything. So don't do it.
Shut up Rob Leonardi.

I'm having a huge problem with procrastination. I don't know what to do about it. It gets worse and worse every day.

My classes kinda suck. Well Calc 1 and Natural Hazards are just okay, but the other two suck. I think it's because I like more quantitative type classes. That's why I loved last year so much... I didn't have english. Next semester I think I'm taking: Econ 101, Stats 350, Calc 2, and a business class in spanish. This means no English classes for me. Thank god. It sucks that two of my classes are reading though, one in spanish and one in english. I thought the writing class would be more like Rhetoric in high school where you write about things that matter, not analyzing character attributes and arguing about motifs and gay shit like that.
I have to get an insanely good GPA to even have a chance of getting into the Business school, so I have to continue to try even if I hate it.
I'm enjoying my extra hour of time this afternoon because I skipped Spanish.

So I'm picking up Jon in the morning and we're going to school.
This entry could be from high school, except I have to drive an hour away to get to school.

Update: I love college.
I like everything about college right now except my classes. English is a waste of time, Spanish is way too hard for me. Natural Hazards is okay. Calc 1 is fun because the teacher uses farts for his problem examples.
I'm making some awesome friends, and I can't wait for PROG next Saturday. Holy shit.

So College has been a lot of fun so far. I've had some trouble adjusting and being away from my friends and family, but overall it has been a good time.
Marching band was fun for the first week. It started to get especially grueling at the beginning and middle of the second week of 10 hour days. At the end of 2 weeks I was almost nearly convinced that I would not be coming back next year.
Now that it is only an hour and a half each day and I have gotten to know a lot of the people much better, I find that I am enjoying myself a lot more. I have made a ton of friends and I look forward to making more as the years go on. I love my section and can't wait to hang out with them on saturday nights.
Game days are absolutely amazing. I have never been a part of something so incredible. I can't wait for tomorrow morning to come so I can do it all over again.

Good news:
I just got my report card in the mail, and it says my cumulative GPA is 4.019, which means I am officially a valedictorian.
I'm so excited.

I, like April, wish I updated this more often.
Senior year so far has been great, and the easiest year of school yet. I hardly ever have homework, which is a very welcome change after last year. Rhonda is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Me, Jon, and some others built the biggest homemade igloo I've ever personally seen. It was very gratifying for 6 people to be able to sit in it at once. I sawed my Dad's hoe in half to make it more manageable for igloo-building, and he was understandably pissed. I knew this would happen though. The igloo proceeded to melt about 3 days after it was built... how upsetting. Oh, and Zack jumped out of my 2nd story window. Crazy bitch.
Sweeney Todd is probably my new favorite movie.
Christmas Break has been relaxing, and I've been spending a lot of time with Sarahs and Jon and Dan and Tom and those people. Last night we spent a few hours planning our trip to Chicago for Spring Break and I'm really looking forward to that.
I'm really looking forward to the rest of this year with EMU, Going up north, spring break, the physics boat race, and... graduating. As excited as I am for graduation, I think it's more excitement for the summer rather than excitement for college. I go back and forth between being really excited and really dreading it.
I'm almost positive that I'm going to U of M, regardless of the more expensive tuition. I think the experience of going there will be hard to put a price on. I got a full ride to Oakland and I'm a semi-finalist in a contest for a full ride to Central, so those are always tempting.
We put water in the hot tub.

How did everyone's shows go yesterday? We had two lackluster performances at West Bloomfield and Clarkston, especially the second one. Our electronics weren't working properly, and our narration didn't work AT ALL. I'm excited to see how we place when we have a good run at a show.
